Speaking with Healthcare Professionals #3

 

Objectives:

  • The learner will match body part with the verb(s) that correctly describes its function.

  • The learner will place sentence strips in correct sequence to form a healthcare dialogue.

  • The learner will correctly identify nouns, articles, verbs and adjectives in a sample dialogue.

Duration:

 

     4 hours

 

Materials:

Activities:

  1. Teacher conducts review of body parts using body parts flashcards.

  2. Teacher introduces Body Part/Verb Match worksheet, using non-verbal cues to define verbs.

  3. Teacher assigns one body part/verb match to each learner; learner demonstrates non-verbal cue for his/her verb to class

  4. Learners perform chain drill where each student names his/her body part/verb match while demonstrating it: for example learner inhales through nose after saying, "smell." Learners repeat chain drill as needed, increasing speed each time (conduct three to five times).

  5. Teacher introduces sentence strip activity: distributes Sentence Strip worksheet and assigns one sentence from the sheet to each learner.

  6. Individual learners identify nouns, articles, verbs and adjectives in their sentence strip, then put sentences from the Sentence Strips worksheet in proper sequence.

  7. Class gathers around table and collaborates on correct sequence of sentence strips.

  8. Paired learners write and recite completed dialogue.

  9. Teacher concludes lesson with a repeat of body part/verb chain drill.

Assessment:

 

Teacher monitors verbal and written responses of individual students.
