Literacy Volunteers tutors will find useful lesson plan ideas, lesson materials and practical lesson application tips by examining the unit descriptions below. Taken together, these units comprised Session I of Literacy Volunteers’ first six-week EL/Civics evening class, which began in late May, 2002. Each unit features a list of unit materials and activities for intermediate level English learners. However, many of the materials and activities are easily adapted to meet the needs of learners at other levels of competency.

Most of the activities used in Session I appear in chapters seven and eight of the Literacy Volunteers publication, I Speak English. Tutors with questions about these activities or how to apply them to single- and paired –learner environments may also contact the Literacy Volunteers ESOL coordinator at 265-9339, Mondays through Fridays.
