Using Prepositions #2

The learner will copy and paste a preposition reference sheet from the Internet to a word processing file, save the file and print it.

High-Beginning and Low-Intermediate Learners:

Teacher introduces prepositions of location and movement by telling learners, "You are in English class. You are not at work. When you arrive, you walk upstairs and take a seat inside the classroom." Teacher reveals introductory statement on sentence strip, tapes it to a wall or white board, and underlines the prepositions of location and movement. Teacher asks learners, "How do we know when to say "at," "on," and "in? When do we use no preposition?" Teacher comments on learner responses.

Teacher distributes Common Prepositions #2 reference sheet. Class starts with prepositions of movement, completing a substitution drill followed by a response drill with "at" before progressing to "on" and "in." All learners should have the opportunity to respond individually at least once to each drill.

Learners complete first section of Practice with Prepositions #2 worksheet. Learners share answers for nos. 1-10 as a class; exchange papers with another learner to review nos. 1-6.

Teacher refers again to Common Prepositions #2 reference sheet, this time focusing on prepositions of location. Class follows same sequence as with prepositions of movement.

Learners complete second section of Practice with Prepositions #2 worksheet. Learners share answers for nos. 1-10 as a class; exchange papers with another learner to review nos. 1-6.

Learners share each other's sentences with class.

Learners complete Copy and Paste computer activity for prepositions of time.
High-Intermediate Learners:

The learner will perform self assessment of irregular verbs.

The learner will use irregular verbs in written and spoken sentences.

The learner will continue with Web project applying grammar and Internet search skills (see directions on the Web Project assignment sheet).
Activities:

Learners continue with ongoing independent self-assessment using Irregular Verb Page and Irregular Verb Jeopardy, as described in Introduction to Computers and Computer Vocabulary (30-60 minutes each evening).

Learners continue the Web Project as described in project directions.
Assessment:
High-Beginning and Low-Intermediate Learners: Teacher monitors quality of verbal responses providing correction where necessary, evaluates written responses.
High-Intermediate Learners: Teacher observes learner progress, making note of problem areas and providing correction and additional practice as required.
