Practical Healthcare: Vocabulary, Verbs and Frequency Adverbs
Objectives:

The learner will correctly identify 71 basic parts of the human body.
The learner will correctly use the frequency adverbs "never," "seldom," "often," "usually," "always," "rarely" and "sometimes" in healthcare related sentences.

The learner will correctly use the past and present tenses of the verbs "drink," "make," "fall," "drive," "run," "have," "eat," "walk," "put," "write," "take," "be," "catch," "give," "feel," "hurt," "injure," "treat" and "cure" in sentences relating to healthcare.

Activities:

Teacher uses flashcards to introduce body part vocabulary, modeling location and correct pronunciation; students repeat four times, pointing to location (head and neck, body, foot and ankle introduced during first 2 hour block; arm and shoulder, leg and hip, skin and internal body parts and hand and wrist introduced during second 2 hour block).

Teacher conducts substitution drill using flashcards and simple sentences, i.e.: "My _________ hurts," "I feel pain in my _____________."

Teacher conducts response drill using flashcards, i.e. "Where is your wrist?" "My wrist is here." Learners point to body part as they respond.

Teacher provides conjugation of the verbs "drink," "make," "fall," "drive," "run," "have," "eat," "walk," "put," "write," "take," "be," "catch," "give," "feel," "hurt," "injure," "treat" and "cure," and models correct pronunciation; learners write and say verbs.

Teacher draws timeline and places frequency adverbs in appropriate location.

Teacher conducts substitution drill with frequency adverbs, i.e.' "She _________________ sees the doctor when she feels sick."

Learners complete Healthcare Verbs and Frequency Adverbs sheet using frequency adverb timeline and Verb Conjugation sheet.
