Using and Paying for Electricity: Talking About Your Bill

Objectives:

  • The learner will define all vocabulary words relating to a sample electric bill.

  • The learner will use the past, present and future tenses of the verbs "pay," "owe," "receive," "call," "return," "restore," "send," and "get" in their proper context.

  • The learner will participate in a role playing activity, correctly pronouncing all vocabulary.

     2 hours

 

Materials:

Activities:

  1. Whole class participates in chain drill as vocabulary review.

  2. Teacher conducts verb review using flashcards: student pulls a pronoun or noun card, teacher pulls a verb card, learner provides correct conjugation. 

  3. Teacher introduces "I Have No Electricity" dialogue and divides class into "customers" and "customer service reps." "Customers" and "reps." practice together as groups.

  4. Teacher matches pairs, one from each group; learner pairs demonstrate dialogue in front of the class in "telephone conversation" positions (seated, facing away from partner).

  5. Whole class discusses/offers corrections for each learner pair following each performance. 

Assessment:

 

Teacher monitors verb review for accuracy and speed, learners and teacher correct each pair's demonstration.
