Going to the Job Interview

Activities:

Teacher introduces lesson sharing 3-5 more humorous job interview stories.

Learners listen to cassette tape in Part B, Lesson 6, pausing to compare answers and discuss before reading script. Learners identify all unfamiliar terms and define with help from teacher and class.

Learners participate in think-pair-share activity where teacher assigns one of the five questions in Part C Lesson 6 to each learner pair. Class discusses responses, assisting each other with forming grammatically correct complete sentence sentences to each of the five questions.

Learners complete Part D, Lesson 6 individually. Learners define unfamiliar terms. Learners share responses with class, including terms they defined.

Paired learners compare interview tips from Lesson 6 with "Dos and Don'ts in a Job Interview". When completed, learners discuss as a class.

Teacher introduces "would rather" by asking "How do we tell someone that we like one thing better than another thing?" Teacher writes the word "preference" on the board, and underneath writes "she would rather work in an office than work in a factory." Teacher asks learners for other substitutions.

Learners complete Part b, Lesson 7, answering in complete sentences. Learners share answers as a class, defining all unfamiliar vocabulary.

Teacher conducts substitution drill with format in Part C, Lesson 7 choosing a random subject with the following combinations: "live alone/live with a roommate," "work inside/work outside," "take my lunch to work/ eat out everyday," "stay busy at work/relax at work," "work sitting down/work on my feet."

Learners complete parts D and E, Lesson 7 (Part D as a paired activity) and share responses with the class.
Assessment:
Teacher monitors quality of verbal and written responses providing correction where necessary.
