Job Interview Dialogue and Final Evaluation  

 

Objectives:

  • The learner will create a sample interview between an employer and a prospective employee with special emphasis on expressing preference, using gerunds, infinitives and prepositions of time, place and location.

  • The learner will demonstrate 75% comprehension of session grammar and life skills through participation in a final evaluation activity.

Activities:

  1. Teacher introduces lesson sharing 3-5 more humorous job interview stories.

  2. Paired learners create a sample interview between an employer and a prospective employee, using any and all available resources. Expectations are: 1) Dialogues should be long enough to give each participant at least six lines. 2) Dialogues will be no more than four minutes. 3) The employer may be anyone, including a company that currently employs the learner. 4) Special emphasis is on expressing preference, using gerunds, infinitives and prepositions of time, place and location. 5) Learners are encouraged to model their interviews after the samples at The Job Center, Questions to Expect During your Job Interview and A Job Interview.

  3. Learners perform their dialogues for the class with time for comments and corrections as needed. 

  4. Learners participate in final evaluation activity: teacher creates two teams; learners from each team take turns reaching into one of two groups of question strips that are weighted according to difficulty (2 points and 4 points); learners have 15 seconds to answer the question or "pass"; "passed" questions must be answered by the other team; teacher keeps team scores and a count of correct answers for each learner.    

Assessment:

 

Teacher monitors quality of pronunciation and written dialogue text, providing correction where necessary; keeps team and individual scores during final evaluation activity.
