Each lesson plan contains specific behavioral objectives, the lesson's duration, lesson materials, classroom activities and assessment tools. A thumbnail sketch of each lesson is provided as a quick reference.
This orientation session features two interactive activities that allow learners to ask and answer questions about each other. Worksheets model correct questions and responses while giving the instructor useful insights into learner interests, learning styles and language competencies. Included in the session materials are questionnaires that give learners opportunities to express what they already know and what they want to learn. (2 hours)
Learners use count and non-count nouns and apply the rules for changing singular nouns to noun plurals while investigating their responsibilities as taxpayers. This lesson is built around the use of English for All's Episode Nine, "Dealing with Taxes" video. A complete lesson packet is available online in addition to an assortment of other lesson materials that emphasize listening comprehension in authentic situations. (6 hours)
This follow up lesson to "Dealing with Taxes" challenges learners to paraphrase a newspaper article about the Earned Income Tax Credit while applying the information to their own family situations. Grammar exercises allow a review of count and non-count nouns and noun plurals while introducing the correct use of "a," "an" or no article in written and spoken sentences. (4 hours)
Learners review noun plurals using "a lot of," "some," "many," a few," "much" and "a little" with count and non-count nouns before making generalizations with plural and singular nouns. (2 hours)
Woody Guthrie's "This Land is Your Land" teaches learners how to use the past and present continuous tenses in written and spoken English. A WebQuest about the Great Depression and the Dustbowl are included in order to illuminate the importance of the lesson's historical content. This is the first of a series of three lessons designed to teach the past continuous, present continuous, present perfect continuous and future continuous tenses using popular songs. (4 hours)
This classic song by The Police teaches learners how to use the future continuous tense. Writing and speaking practice combine with sentence sequencing and singing in this second musical lesson of the series. (4 hours)
Final musical lesson asks learners to compare structures of the past continuous and present perfect continuous tenses. Learners also review the use of the past continuous and future continuous tenses. (4 hours)
Dialogue Practice with the Continuous Tenses
Learners apply their speaking skills and knowledge of the present continuous, past continuous, future continuous and present perfect continuous tenses to create dialogues representing authentic situations. (2-3 hours)
Continuous Tenses Final Evaluations
Four online quizzes gauge learner mastery of the present continuous, past continuous, future continuous and present perfect continuous tenses. (1-1.5 hours) |
