Crossroads Cafe: "Who's the Boss?" Act 1
Objectives:

The learner will correctly pronounce key phrases and words and identify them during the story.

Teacher introduces activity and distributes "Crossroads Cafe Activity" worksheet. Learners practice pronouncing words and phrases in Part 1 of the Act 1 worksheet.

Learners view first five minutes of "Who's the Boss," Act 1 with sound on, vision off. As a class, learners guess the setting, action, and attempt to associate a job title/role with each character. Learners write their guesses on a writing board as they compare their responses as a class.

Learners view same footage of Act 1 with vision on, sound on. Class re-evaluates guesses about setting, plot and the job title/role of each character. Learners complete Part 2a of Act 1 worksheet.

Teacher turns off video. Learners read and understand Part 2b, 2c and 3.

Teacher turns tape on, completing Act 1. Learners individually complete parts 2b, 2c and 3.

Learners work in pairs, comparing responses to parts 2 and 3.

Learners describe to the class their responses to parts 2b and 2c. Class compares and discusses each response.

Teacher replays portions of video if necessary.

Learners practice minimal pairs in Part 3 and suggest other minimal pairs that give them difficulty.
Assessment:
Teacher monitors verbal responses, checks written responses for comprehension and offering corrections to grammar as required.
