Asking and Answering Questions Using Basic Vocabulary
Health literacy activities introduce basic health vocabulary; English grammar activities require use of "Where?", "Who?", "What?" and "Is there?"/"Are there?" questions to ask and answer questions related to health care (2 hours)
Completing a Confidential Health Intake Form
Hands on activity form requires the ability to describe current health needs, health history and other pertinent information to healthcare professionals through the use of hypothetical patient profiles and a sample confidential health intake form. (2 hours)
Writing activity features three choices that require the application of vocabulary and grammar skills in a culminating healthcare activity. (2 hours)
Listening and reading comprehension activities accentuate the relationship between diet and health. Learners use online body mass calculator to determine fitness as they acquire additional healthcare vocabulary. (2 hours)
Making a Doctor's Appointment over the Phone
Listening comprehension skills are highlighted through the use of a sample phone conversation and the opportunity to role play conversations between a patient and a doctor's receptionist. (2 hours)
Practical Healthcare: Vocabulary, Verbs and Frequency Adverbs
Health and English grammar skills emphasize vocabulary necessary to describe symptoms and parts of the body to healthcare professionals in preparation for completion of a health intake form. (4 hours)
Speaking with Healthcare Professionals #1
First in a series of conversational lessons requiring the writing and performing of patient/doctor dialogue using health vocabulary and questioning skills (2 hours)
Speaking with Healthcare Professionals #2
Second conversational lesson introduces the verbs "hurt," feel," "be," and "have," the adjectives "sore," "sick," "dizzy," "nauseous," and the nouns "pain" and "symptoms." Activities also require original responses to the question, "What's the matter?" "How are you feeling?" and "What symptoms do you have?" (2 hours)
Speaking with Healthcare Professionals #3
Dialogue activities stress sentence sequencing and the identification and proper use of nouns, articles, verbs and adjectives. Additional emphasis is placed upon correct identification of body parts with the verb(s) that correctly describe their function. (4 hours)
Speaking with Healthcare Professionals #4
Dialogue activities focus on the identification of body parts and matching verb(s), plus proper use of frequency adverbs and further use of healthcare vocabulary. (2 hours) |
